Our History

1970s

Inauguration
March 6, 1970

The late Yukio Funai (d. January 19, 2014), an expert in comprehensive diagnosis of corporate management, establishes Japan Marketing Center Co., Ltd. (the present Funai Soken Holdings Inc.) in Yariyamachi, Osaka.

September 1970 The members-only Cosmos Club is established to offer management strategy workshops for business operators.
August 1971 Tokyo office opens in the Roppongi area of Tokyo to promote expansion of business in the Kanto area.
1972

Henshin Shouhou (Commerce in Change), written by Yukio Funai becomes a best seller, with more than 400,000 copies sold. Capitalizing on this momentum, sales also increase dramatically. This marks the beginning of a transition away from consulting based exclusively on competition.

March 1978 Regional Funai Clubs are established in Nagoya, Fukuoka, and other major cities to offer management workshops to local business operators.

1980s

Listing
December 1981 Headquarters move to the Umeda Toho Seimei Bldg., (now the Umeda East Bldg., in Taiyujicho, Kita-ku, Osaka).
March 1985 In preparation for public offering, the company name is changed from Japan Marketing Center Co., Ltd to Funai Consulting Ltd.
September 1988 Listed as a Specially Designated Stock on the 2nd Section of the Osaka Stock Exchange.

1990s

Focus on the service industry
March 1990

Yukio Funai is named chairman of the board and Tadashi Moto’ori becomes the company’s second president. The company transforms itself away from its former focus on logistics, which held sway during the 1970s and 1980s, and repositions itself as a provider of professional services. The ability of each individual to act autonomously and adapt to changing circumstances rather than waiting for instructions from superiors proves to be the key to a successful transformation.

June 1993

The company is listed in the Second Section of the Osaka Securities Exchange. Tokyo headquarters move to Nishi Gotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo (the present Gotanda office).

September 1996 Osaka headquarters move to Toyosaki, Kita-ku, Osaka.

2000s

Expanded operations
February 2000 Funai Information Systems Co., Ltd is established (presently a consolidated subsidiary, renamed Funai Soken IT Solutions Inc. in July 2014.)
March 2000

Masahiko Koyama is named the company’s third president. Recognizing a business climate requiring “a change of gears,” management seeks to reestablish a growth trajectory.

December 2004 Shares listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
April 2005

Tokyo headquarters move to the Nihonseimei Marunouchi Bldg., in Marunouchi, Chioda-ku, Tokyo.

December 2005 The company is listed in the First Section of both the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Osaka Securities Exchange.
2010 In addition to providing conventional support for enhancing business performance, we also position at the center of our raison d’etre support for companies that wish to excel in their chosen industry and establish our corporate domain as one of creating superior enterprises that will lead the future.
February 2010 Our annual Great Company Award is presented for the first time.

2010s

Move to a corporate group structure
March 2010

We celebrate 40 years of business. Sakae Takashima is named the company’s fourth president. Our corporate motto becomes “self-control, autonomy, and teamwork.”

July 2010

Osaka headquarters move to Kitahama, Chuo-ku, Osaka. The Yodoyabashi Seminar Place opens.

August 2010 A new corporate logo is unveiled.
January 2012 Funai Consulting Shanghai Inc. is established in China (now a consolidated subsidiary).
January 2014 Funai Soken Logistics Inc. becomes a wholly owned subsidiary (now a consolidated subsidiary).
July 2014 The Funai Group transitions to a holding company structure. The holding company is named Funai Soken Holdings Inc., the management consulting business is taken over by Funai Consulting Inc., and the sales support business is taken over by Funai Soken Corporate Relations Inc.
February 2015 Proseed Corporation becomes a wholly owned subsidiary (now a consolidated subsidiary).
March 2016 Takayuki Nakatani succeeded Sakae Takashima as president of Funai Consulting (the core firm of the Funai Soken Consulting Group) and Takashima became president and group CEO of Funai Soken Holdings.
February 2018 HR Force Inc. is established (now a consolidated subsidiary).
June 2018 Shinwa Computer Service becomes a wholly owned subsidiary.

2020s

Focus on expanding digital consulting solutions
March 6, 2020 50th anniversary of the groupʼs founding.
March 2021

Takayuki Nakatani is appointed president.

April 2022 Tokyo Stock Exchange reorganizes market segments; Funai Soken Holdings shares now listed on the Prime market.
July 2022 Funai Soken Corporate Relations and Shinwa Computer Service merge to create a new company: Funai Soken Digital Inc.
January 2023 Seicho Senryaku becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Funai Consulting.
“Sustainable growth for more companies” is instituted as the Funai Soken Consulting Group Purpose.
April 2024 Funai Soken Digital and Funai Soken IT Solutions are absorbed into Funai Consulting in a merger

Tokyo headquarters are relocated to Tokyo Midtown Yaesu; various Tokyo operations are consolidated into a single location (the present Tokyo headquarters).
